Remembering the victims of the ’13 de Marzo’ Tugboat Massacre in Cuba on the 25th anniversary of their murders

In the early morning hours on that fateful Wednesday, July 13, 1994, 37 men, women, and children climbed aboard a ship in a daring attempt to escape the tyranny and slavery of Cuba’s Castro dictatorship. They commandeered a tugboat named “13 de Marzo” and made it out seven miles from the Cuban shore before they were intercepted by the Cuban military.

Although seven miles was not that far from the life of oppression and misery they were trying to leave behind, it was far enough that the only ones who heard their screams of horror and pain before being swallowed up by the sea were their executioners and the few survivors.

For twenty-five years the Castro regime has continued its efforts to silence their screams. It should also be noted that many other nations have helped the Castros in its attempts to cover up this heinous crime. But despite their vile efforts, the screams of those ten children and 27 adults viciously murdered by the Castro regime can be still heard today.

Those screams will continue to haunt the Castro dictatorship and the regime’s enablers day and night. They will not cease until their executioners and the Castros are finally brought to justice.

Therefore, this day also marks 25 years since neither the Castro family nor any other members of their murderous dictatorship have been brought to justice — let alone indicted in an international court — for this horrific crime.

For 25 years now the world has stood idly by and pretended these innocent victims never existed, never breathed, never yearned for freedom, and never screamed for help. In their callous view, these individuals never existed and were therefore never murdered by Castro soldiers 7 miles off the coast of Cuba.

Today we remember the victims of the “13 de Marzo” Tugboat Massacre. We will continue honoring these martyrs for generations, and long after their executioners are eventually brought to justice.
